In 2017, several of our creative leaders had a dream for a collaborative project between the different creative ministries. Out of that dream, came The Swell. The Swell represents the release of unique and creative worship over our church body. It is an explosive wave of every voice and every heart joining together in worship fueled by an explosive wave of anointing from Holy Spirit. It is Gateway’s sound. This is not just for our specifically creative ministries - music, art and dance - but it is overflowing for every ministry in our church - for all of our ministries serve the Lord first and foremost out of a heart of worship.

Childlike Wonder was completed by Gateway Art in 2019 as a prophetic piece for the kids’ space in our church. 

In Matthew 14, the disciples are alone in the middle of a lake, struggling to control their boat in the wind. After a while, Jesus goes out to meet them, walking on the water. When the disciples see Him walking on the water, they are, understandably, afraid and think He’s a ghost. After Jesus tells them not to be afraid, Peter says, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come out to you on the water.” 

“Come,” says Jesus. And Peter steps out of the safety of the boat and walks on the water.

This painting depicts the moment of Jesus saying, “Come.” It is Him inviting our children to join Him on the waves. There is no fear in His eyes, only excitement as he beckons them to come with Him on a wild and exciting adventure. Our kids ministry is about raising up kids who know God and look like Jesus - instilling in them a childlike wonder and excitement about our amazing God, so that they have the faith to step out the safety of the boat and say, “Yes,” to Jesus.
